The 78th Championship of Saint-Petersburg took place 17-27 March in the Mikhail Chigorin City Chess Club. The tournament gathered a very strong membership: between 12 participants there are 7 GMs (Sergey Ivanov 2574, Vasily Yemelin 2555, Denis Yevseev 2550, Sergey Ionov 2527, Valerij Popov 2588, Aleksei Lugovoi 2552 and Valery Loginov 2507), 2 IMs (Sergey Klimov 2509 and Sergey Solovjov 2456) and 1 master of Russia 18 y.o. Nikita Vitiugov 2478).
