Gabriel Sargissian
became the winner of the
1st Ruy Lopez International Festival
took place in Zafra, birthplace of Ruy Lopez, from 16th to 25th March. The Festival was planned
around the following three activities: a top class Tournament with the
participation of Ruslan Ponomariov UKR 2723, Krishnan Sasikiran IND 2700,
Gabriel Sargissian ARM 2658, Ivan Sokolov NED 2652, Julio Granda Zuniga PER 2612,
Manuel Perez Candelario ESP 2515, Hou Yifan CHN 2509 and Antoaneta Stefanova BUL 2483
(from 17th to 23rd March). The Children's Tournament and "Linex" Youth in the active
chess class had three laptop computers as prizes for the winners in the following
categories: Under 18s, Under 14s, and Under 10s (17th and 18th March).
The Ruy Lopez Open active chess where all the games will be played in this
order: 1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.Bb5 will have a total of 12,000 Euros in prizes
(24th and 25th March).
